Martin Swan Violins is a husband and wife partnership between Martin Swan and Anna Ashmole. We’ve been selling violins online since 2007 and have advised players all over the world about choosing a violin, viola, cello or bow. Our customers (around 1,000 so far) include professional violinists (classical, traditional & alternative), keen amateurs, students, teachers and collectors.

Martin assesses and maintains all of our instruments and bows. He is a professional musician, composer, record producer, and erstwhile TV producer - for details look at this page, also Wikipedia and YouTube.

Anna manages our website, marketing and social media presence. She has been involved with many different NGOs and businesses over the years, including Scotland's first secure e-commerce website. A brief cv is here.

We work with a number of expert restorers for specialised repairs and for cello set-ups. If there is a need to authenticate a valuable violin or bow we obtain opinions and/or certificates from appropriate expert appraisers, most recently Paul Childs, JJ Rampal, Jan Strick, JF Raffin, David Rattray, Jan Spidlen and Peter Biddulph. We also work regularly with Peter Ratcliff on dendrochronological analysis of older instruments.

Feel free to contact us with any queries, large or small – we try to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours. We always welcome customer feedback - we can also offer advice about selling a violin if you are considering upgrading. If you would like to try out any of our instruments or bows, you’re welcome to make an appointment to meet us in Scotland, London or elsewhere.
