This is a fine violin with an exceptional sound, but it’s had a lot of restoration. In a past life it was a very fine violin, and it’s a testament to its sound that so much care has been lavished on it over the centuries. Dendrochronological analysis reveals wood from the mid-18th century, typical only to French violins of the period.

Length of back 35.5cm, stop 130/195 mm, total length 59.7cm
