I recently took part – as a listener – in a trial of violins being played as soloist instruments with an orchestra in a concert hall in Paris. This was organised by Claudia Fritz and Joseph Curtin as a follow-up to the study they published in January 2012 which created something of a media storm. The results of the Paris test aren’t published yet, but if you’re interested in the earlier work siehe hier. Also, Violinist.com has just posted a useful summary of various violin listening tests conducted since 1975.
