An exceptional Italian violin by one of the most talented makers of the Bisiach shop, Ferrucio Varagnolo – very attractive, a great size, and a beautifully balanced sound. This violin is featured in Dmitry Gindin’s recent book “The Modern Italian Violin Makers”.
Ferrucio Varagnolo only lived into his 30s,and his output is small. Much of his work was sold under the Leandro Bisiach label, but there are rare examples such as this violin which bear his own label. He was clearly a great talent, and it’s a great pity he didn’t live long enough for his work to be placed alongside that of the Antoniazzis or of Leandro Bisiach himself.
It’s a beautiful instrument with precise, Amatise f-holes, soft but sculptural edges, a fine classical scroll and a very dramatic one-piece back.
The condition is excellent with no cracks or damage.
