This is a superb FX Tourte violin bow in outstanding condition, original in all parts even down to the ivory face. It’s both an important historical artifact and a perfectly realised musical tool – an exceptional specimen as the certificate attests.
In the opinion of Pierre Guillaume this bow is one of the ten best Tourtes in existence. It’s in remarkable condition, entirely original, and it’s a spectacular player – strong, nervous and shockingly healthy for a 200 year old bow.
The stick is of octagonal section pernambuco of the highest quality, mounts are silver and ebony and original in all parts.
There is a small half-cheval on one side of the frog, otherwise there are no condition issues – all parts of the bow are unusually well preserved. The ivory face is cracked on one side, but it’s original and we have chosen not to replace it – that’s a decision for its next owner to make.
To have this bow in your hand is to stand on the roof of the world – yet unlike Everest where the queue for the summit can be half a mile long, it’s an experience given to very few.
A Tourte in this kind of condition is impossibly rare – for it to play so perfectly is even rarer.
If you have a serious interest in this bow then we look forward to hearing from you – of course it’s not cheap, but we believe it’s reasonably priced and an excellent opportunity.
