This is a lovely middle period James Tubbs cello bow in excellent condition.
Given the number of James Tubbs bows we have sold, it’s strange that we’ve never had a cello bow before. But it was worth the wait – this is a really beautiful bow from his most reliable period, and the condition is outstanding.
The stick is of dark red-brown pernambuco, round section of course, and happily without the rather extreme dark stain that Tubbs used on so many of his bows. The ferrule has nicely rounded corners without exaggeration, the face is silver as usual, and the button plain, long and elegant.
Apart from some very fine vertical scratches on the head, there’s very little evidence of use.
All in all, a sensational bow from this great English maker.
