This is a fine early example of the work of James Tubbs. The model is the one he used while making bows for WE Hill. The head is more refined than in his later work, the frog with a wide throat and delicate pearl eye, and a very characteristic “goldfish” mother of pearl throughout.
The stick is of unstained round section orange pernambuco of superior quality with a nice flame. Mounts are silver and ebony. The condition is exemplary – there’s very little wear and there are no defects.
