JB Vuillaume can truly be said to have revolutionised the world of stringed instruments. No-one has had quite as much impact on violin-making since Stradivari. He rode a wave of demand, largely of his own creating, and produced thousands of instruments and bows of extremely high quality. In the process he trained up an entire generation of fine makers.
Vuillaume produced beautiful instruments made with flair and precision. His business acumen and the popularity of his instruments have made him a household name, and their value has gone up with giddying speed.
Vuillaume violas are quite rare – rarer still to find one in this sort of condition. There are no cracks or damages, and the original varnish is in a near-perfect state of preservation.
There’s a lot of ill-founded prejudice about smaller violas – suffice to say that this instrument is a knockout. Articulate yet sonorous, beautifully balanced, very solistic, this is a genuine concert instrument. It’s loud and clear and has excellent projection – it’s also impossible to overplay!
A superb example in outstanding condition.
