This is an unused Jules Fétique cello bow – a remarkable example of this great maker’s work, dating from around 1940.

Jules Fétique is the name on everyone’s lips, at least in the world of bow nerds! A couple of recent auction sales would suggest that he increasingly being seen as an equal to Sartory, for whom he worked for a time.

So it’s all the more special to have a trio of Jules Fetiques (violin, viola and cello) all in ‘as new’ condition.

The cello bow, made around 1940 and branded Emile Français Paris, is a remarkable specimen which has been in a private collection for the last 40 years. The stick is of round section dark red brown pernambuco of exceptional quality, dense, speckled and lightly flamed. Mounts are of silver and ebony – the ivory face is original.

There’s no wear to the bow and there are no signs of use.
