Noel Burke is a highly respected contemporary maker whose bows are used by a number of leading professional players. Here we have a superb gold mounted violin bow with excellent playing qualities in almost new condition.
Noel Burke’s work is very distinctive, and this bow is a beauty. The stick is of fiery red round section pernambuco with a subtle figure, mounts are gold and ebony. This bow was commissioned in 2016 and completed in 2018, since which time it’s had limited use – enough to acquire a few minor scuffs to the stick but otherwise the condition is as new.
If we hadn’t waved an irresistible William Tubbs in front of him, I’m sure the previous owner of this bow wouldn’t have parted with it. It has a sprightly stick which draws a big bright sound without sacrificing core – it’s very easy to get this bow off the string but you never lose that sense of contact with the instrument. The balance is great, lots of grip, plenty of volume – all in all a great all-purpose bow which would help bring to life a slightly dark or sluggish instrument.
